Snowstorm!

The October snowstorm hit us pretty hard. We had about a foot of snow and a lot of the trees in our yard lost limbs. The big Catalpa tree in our front yard split in half. It could have easily fallen on our house or the neighbor's house, but it missed both!
We lost power for 10 days. We didn't have heat or water. We stuck it out for a couple of days, but then we heard the reports that power may not be on for a week or more, so we packed up and headed to Grandma's! We had an unexpected but absolutely wonderful visit. We were able to work from there and Evan got lots of quality Grandma and Dryden time.


The birch trees that used to grace our front yard are now touching the ground!

This is our driveway. Half of the Catalpa tree fell in the driveway, the other half fell toward the road. Luckily it was hung up in other trees so it didn't fall into the road and block it.


Poor little Evan all bundled up to take a nap in the chilly house.

Outdoor fun

Prior to the October storm, John got a new "toy" - it's a saw on a rope. I'm sure some of you have heard of this thing, but for those that haven't, it's two ropes with a chainsaw blade in the middle. You throw the rope over a high tree limb and then grab both sides to saw the limb off. It's a pretty good invention actually. John went to work on the big Catalpa tree out in our front yard.
We bundled up Evan to watch the show...
