July 4th Weekend

We had a great time at my Mom's house this weekend. Mike, Erica, Annie and Charlotte were visiting too. We had a blast hanging out with everyone!!

Charlotte has changed so much in the past few weeks. It's amazing how big she's gotten!

Annie was fascinated by Grandma's wooden carousel

She also enjoyed helping Grandma water all of the plants. Annie's a very good helper!

Sometimes that nice cold water is just a bit too tempting....

Mom talked me into going for a bike ride, which sounds simple enough, but when you haven't ridden a bike in 20 years it's a bit nerve-wracking to ride out into July 4th Cape Cod traffic. (We were on the bike trail most of the time, but getting to the trail involves riding along Rt 6.) My mom rides that route every day so she's used to it. I, on the other hand, was slightly more aware of the fact that one false move would land me smacked against the bumper of an SUV, so I hopped off and walked my bike most of the way. But it was actually a lot of fun to get back out on the bike, and I'm still in one piece!

Here I am taking a practice ride in the backyard

Apparently Annie was inspired to go for a ride too. She got a tour of the backyard on Dryden's 3-wheeler. That's the way to do it, find a bike that you can't possibly fall off of and then have someone else push it.

Although John was happily relaxing and reading his book out on the deck most of the time, I did manage to get him away for some nature walks.

This is a view from Fort Hill. You can see the Coast Guard Station in the distance straight ahead

Even on the nature walk, John managed to find a spot to relax!

Here's my dream house. The house is off on the right and the lawn leads right down to the water. The marshes and the ocean are off to the left. Maybe someday (come on lucky Powerball numbers!) it'll be mine =)

We saw lots of different kinds of birds on our walks. Up on top of one of the tree branches (in the middle of the photo) is a red-tailed hawk. There was actually a bit of nature drama right in Mom's backyard over the weekend. John and Erica were sitting on the deck looking at a cute little chipmunk when a hawk just like this one swooped right down and snatched it up. I'm kind of glad I missed that little episode...

Before we left to go home, we had birthday cake for John (I don't know when I turned into one of those people that's always got to get a picture of the cake, but somehow it happened...)

Then it was time to say goodbye...

We had a wonderful visit! Thanks Mom & Dryden!
